Shyam Pillalamarri is a highly successful entrepreneur, technology executive, angel investor and mentor/ strategic advisor in the Silicon Valley during the past 30 years. He was personally involved with 3 successful startups as a founder or an early executive.

 

Most recently, he was the SVP of Technology and CTO for Samsung SDS, a global ICT solutions and services provider with over US$8B in revenues, specializing in Digital Transformation of the enterprise with vertical focus on manufacturing, retail, healthcare and financial services. Shyam led the central R&D and incubation efforts across the company to develop and deploy leading edge Artificial Intelligence solutions to create disruptive transformations across Samsung businesses like logistics, healthcare, financial services, industrials and consumer electronics.

 

Prior to Samsung, Shyam was a Co-Founder and VP of Engineering at Azul Systems, a leader in providing highly scalable and elastic Java solutions for transaction-intensive applications in the financial services, e-commerce and high technology industries. The Java platform was deployed by many of the largest e-commerce websites including Kohls, Belk, Saks, Puma and Priceline for its scale, throughput, consistent response times and resiliency.

 

Prior to co-founding Azul Systems, Shyam was Vice President of Software Engineering for the IP Services business unit at Nortel Networks, having joined Nortel through their acquisition of Shasta Networks. At Shasta Networks, he led the software development organization, from inception to product delivery, for the innovative Shasta Broadband IP Services Platform. The platform provided for a carrier-grade fault tolerant system for provisioning and billing of custom IP services for the millions of DSL subscribers for any particular operator. In just the first year of the product shipments as part of Nortel, he was responsible for the development and support of the IP Services product to global telecom providers for over $200M.

 

Prior to Shasta Networks, Shyam was Director of Software Engineering at ZeitNet (acquired by Cabletron) where he led the development of various ATM products targeted towards the enterprise market. Shyam also held management and engineering positions at Hewlett Packard, where he led several networking, storage and distributed systems development projects.

 

Shyam is an industry recognized speaker at conferences and a seed stage angel investor who has mentored many startups from inception to realizing great commercial success. He has been granted 14 patents in high performance computing and communications. He holds a MSCS degree from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree from IIT, Madras, India.
